We’ve had a goose couple hanging around here for more than a month now. I’m assuming that they have a nest somewhere close. The behavior of the male goose when another goose couple showed up, perhaps looking for a suitable place to nest also, confirmed my suspicions. He’s not having it. It took him about two minutes to run them off. There is apparently only room for one couple between the two ponds.
The transformation happens suddenly. Last week the trees were old, grey, lean and wise companions. This week they are vibrant, youthful, green and growing, camouflaging our neighbors and the rest of the world.
Today I planted seeds for tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, carrots and artichokes. The weather is warm and shouldn’t drop below fifty at night all week, so I decided to just start them outside. I have them situated so that I can easily bring them in at night, though, in case winter decides to return.
If all goes well, we’ll be eating most of these foods in May…
